The Church of St. Mary of Valverde is located in Piazza Cavalieri di Malta and is an example of Baroque art. Existing since the fourteenth century, it was extended in 1633 by Mariano Emery.

The interior is lavishly decorated in marble and bears works of sculpture and painting with the most diverse subjects. The marble decorations are the result of the work of Paul Amato and, subsequently, Andrea Palma; while Joseph Patricolo decorations apse.

The interior is a rectangular hall with a semicircular chancel and choir entrance supported by a large arch; the sottocoro was painted in 1750 by Olivio Sozzi and the frescoes of the time, largely lost, they are the work of Antonio Grano.

On the side walls there are four altars, richly decorated with variegated marbles: the most important is the one dedicated to Saint Lucia.
The church, in decline after the suppression of the convent in 1866, was reopened in 1872. Damaged during the last war, was stripped of furnishings. The first restoration works were carried out between 1979 and 1980. In 1997 the church was reopened for worship and was put back on the high altar altarpiece by Pietro Novelli with Our Lady of Mount Carmel iI saints Teresa of Avila and Mary Magdalene Pazzi and the blessed Alberto and Angelo Licata.
